Math Drill is done for now....

I just added a loop option to math drill and committed, then posted the .PY in the downloads section so it's good to go. I made sure to show proper respect to the Brain Bacon Clan and insert the Blog URL in the closing credits. Apparently i did it right before everything shifted to read-only on server maintenance day so yay me!

King Critter has made some head way in his effort to log on the school wi-fi today so kudos to him. I have no clue what Jake is up to so screw him, :P

no Shiny objects

oye, if you can believe it, a severe fuck up in my school funding has left me without books and alot of stress for me. I'm going to keep on keeping on in this case; work with what i have to the best of my ability. of course that means nothing if my financial aid doesn't pull through like i hope. Yeah, my college career is now in the hands of hope and bureaucrats; i'm doomed.

in other news, i recently played and beat borderlands. It was amazingly disappointing,  the end boss was obscenely easy. and when you have 3 iridian weapons, ammo becomes negligible. pointless even. i had an ultra rare revolver that regened bullets! it fun but damn, easy.

new stuff and shiny objects

Ah internets, is there anything you can't do?

In recent news, i got bioshock 2 in the mail from gamefly on thursday, and now it's monday and i already dropped it in the mail to go back. Not saying that it was short, but it is proof that it isn't any longer or shorter than the original. However, it failed in a few other key places that make the game merely passable rather the perfect successor to the "'shock" series (i count system shock 1 & 2 for obvious reasons).

First of all, there was absolutely nothing wrong with the premise, being a big daddy was pretty cool, and let me mow down splicers rather strategicly approaching one at a time like i did in the original. The downside is that now, you have to take 3 to 4 minutes setting up trapps and using up health and eve hypos trying to set up for when your lil'sister is about to harvest adam. I hated this aspect, and found it easy to die so many damn times that i eventually gave up twowards the end and simply saved the lil'sisters outright. Less adam, but less hassle for me over all.  Lastly, is that alot of the new plasmids either make the game entirely too easy, or to strange to truely enjoy. I found that the new trap plasmid was cool in novelty, but having to use them in practical application, was pointless and more trouble than it's worth.

In other news, i have a new side-project. called BrainBacon, for your perusal. Its a playground for my creative writing stuff, critiques and ideas are accepted, but the most part, just enjoy it.

A little fun with Games

I used to style myself as an amateur game designer, that didn't last long. It's not that i don't know or understand the concepts behind it all, or how to design a game to begin with. I just had no patience and no motivation.

Nothing has changed in that area; Not one damn thing. Except my need for shiny objects and need for funny stuff. While browsing through SomethingAwful i came across a photoshop phriday that i had looked over and laughed at many times before. Random Video Game Generator.

its fun!

Caribbean Goblin Underworld , now that's my favorite so far. Or rather one that seams plausible. hmmm, You guys think it would be to hard to make a pencil and paper version of this?

The State of the Empire Address: We need more Cow Bell!

My fellow Dorks and Loyal subjects;

As it stands in our glorious nation, we are young and unrefined. We need to reach our full potential, for i have a fever. The only cure for this fever is more Cow Bell! I hope to communicate to you, my loyal subjects, my plans to bring the cow bell to our nation and its peoples.

The first step is to define the leadership. In that mind, I do hereby declare Kelly the Foerchy to be Empress of the New Imperial Republic of DorkdemGoverness of Nerdwinia (our bedroom), and my Major-Domo. She has lead our like minded brothers and sisters to victory and has excellent management skills brought forth in the war torn World.........of Warcraft. Her responsibilities are to be the adjunct to our Warcraft brethren and sisteren, the governing of Nerdwinia and it's counties (the closet, the computer table, the bed, etc.,) and my second in command to all things pie and pie related topics. Do welcome her to our country and give her more respect than you would me, or i'll pay for it. (seriously, she gets mad, i get mad, evil cycle, don't start it.)

This, in turn, leads me to my second order of business; the acknowledgement and annexation of our newly founded territory and there leaders.

First is Dan, governor of Danganistan, Isle off the coasts of Ardenia. His new founded territory of Danganistan (ie, his house and car), are rich in the vital resource of crude geektronium. A vital resource used in countless industries like tech support, teaching, gaming, and much much more. As of now, we are in talks with the reprisentives of Danganistan (his wife and kids, maybe his cat) to make them full fledged members of our Republic.

Second is Danni Governess of Almos' Comfy Chair, on the europeon continent. For many years she has protected her realm from space invaders, Dr.Robotnik's minions, King Koopa's evil troopers, and many different forms of zombie. Her province's ability to refine geektronium into the final product of Pwnage is unsurpassed, even by myself. Please welcome her to our nation with open arms and freind requests.

Third is my throne provence of My'Couchia, (my living room) where i hand down Imperial edicts and defend the lands from super mutants and give Rad-Away to others for charity.

Let us welcome these new member provences with high-fives and freind requests. On to other business of our goals.

Now that we have the ability to discuss and even vote on legislation to make our country more fitting to our needs. Most of these things may be decided with an imperial decree, but i wish to make the governing proccess as equal as possible as dictated by my duties in our constitution.

The economic structure of our nation is an important thing; it will be the standard unto which we will trade within our borders. With that in mind, i have decided that we must decide on three major points in our government. Those points are as follows:
  • We will need a regulatory commision with a cool acronym to make sure trade and business transactions are handled honestly and without lameness.
  • We have to have a neat currency, maybe something with griffons, dragons, and/or space-ships on it. I will decide its exchange rate. Which in turn, will be regulated by the previously mentioned reggulatory commision.
  • We must then setup a super simple structure the licensing and taxation of businesses in our borders; its annoying process, but i'm pretty good at monopoly, and Kelly is better, so i think we can handle it.
Allong with the creation of a common coin of the land, we will need to further define our identity and thusly we will need to have the following artistic shiny stuff:
  • The creation of the official Imperial Seal; so i can look all official and stuff. (and Seals for each provence, but that goes without saying, thats the governor's responsibility.)
  • A really cool flag, because, like all the COOL countries are doing it.
Lastly, we will need to get together an Armed Force of somesort. We should put forth a discussion of which games, resources, and nerf products will be the focus of those things, and how they should be implimented. The proccess of this discussion must take into account the availibility of these resources and the needs of our future soldiers.

In closing, i wish to thank you all for reading this, and i hope that all of our new contempararies come to respect one another. May Google bless us all.

So is Signed,

JohnWedd II, Governor of My'Couchia, Liker of Pie, and Emporer of the New Imperial Republic of Dorkdem.

Oye, with all that goes on....

Lately, it's been stressful. It promises to be a full weekend with a hearty mix of mellow and the frustratingly pressured tasks that need to be done. We all have them, chores homework, work work; all that you don't necessarily like doing, but are pushed by the simple fact that these tasks need to be done. We all have our share, mine is starting to seam heavier, but I can deal with it.

My previous post may have seamed off; as if i was drunk, this is not the case. I was extremely exhausted and sleep deprived. I'm tempted to delete it and pretend like it never happened, i won't, mind you. It serves to remind me that on weekdays, i need to go to bed early. Most other grown-ups have this down to an art; why don't I?

In other news, I have managed to convince a few of my friends to join the glorious New Imperial Republic of Dorkdem. I will address that in another post that will also be my first 'State of the Empire' address where i will go over the overview of our great model-nation/thought-experiment as well as lay out goals for the next few months. This will be followed by imperial decree to annex the newly claimed 'land' and name the governors. I want to bulk up the primary found document so that i can use it in my political science class, and just have fun. Never too late to join up!

and in other news, the new email system for reporting books on hold and fines/fees that i cooked up for the library has been doing great, so Kudo's for me.

Busting ass and taking assignments.

I have just gotten a big debockle taken care of in my academic career. It was a lil panicky at first, but i found that i could strive to get through. Doesn't mean i don't have to bust ass getting shit done, in fact, it's more so now. I sit in the library making this quick post with a hand written sign that quotes quite clearly:
Off Duty Nerd
If i had a camera i'd take a pic but thats neither here nor there.

Anyway, More news From my beloved Empire of Dorkdem.

The Emporer (that is myself) is currently working on a law for copyright and intellectual property to submit to the interm-Governer's Conclave (also myself) and then to the interm-Representitive Council (still just me). His Nerdliness JohnWedd II, expects an unianious decision and short deleberation.

... and rest is a blur

Well kiddo's i recently got Fallout 3 for the xbox 360, that combined with my recent rental of Guitar Hero 5, my 3 day weekend was a blur of caffeine and video games. My wife didn't like this. I don't blame her, but damn it, its fucking Fallout 3. The game is so damn immersive it's scary. i love playing the good guy, it's freaking sweet.

The quest called Blood ties was my favorite because i solved it without killing anyone! That's freaking awesome to me. Although i do have a few complaints. Clipping and collision detection seamed a bit wonky, and navigating shit is a bitch. Trying to find proper locations and routes to them is maddening.  but i kept returning to it like a beaten prostitute.

I really need a new game

I'm getting bored with my usual games. I have no points to buy others, and the crappy freebies are few and far between. Seriously, 1 vs 100 was fun in short doses but for the love of GOD i need some freebies i can sink my teeth into. Seriously, would it kill you guys doing the Indie thing at XNA to make a good set of freebies that will inspire more confidence in your abilities?

So far, so almost good

So far I've managed to only need two cigarettes today to maintain sanity. So thats better than what i expected. my sexy wife came in to the library to get the 411 on her new classes, late start, but just knowing she's making the effort is good enough for me.

Caught the preview of the Dell Slate concept on youtube, from CES, and i have only two words for you. DO. WANT.
It's essentially all that I want out of a PDA, and it's android powered. It gets my inner-Google Fanboy an orgasm.
Also, my boss, the Mistress of the Sacred Library has told me of ideas she has had to have workshops on different nerdy things, Such as blogging, researching, open source alternatives to software, etc. I told her that it sounded freakin sweet.

May Camel have mercy on my soul

Thus far, i am 11 hours and 02 minutes into my first venture into quiting smoking. Just now starting to feel the pressure. Its weird how chemical addiction, even the relatively mild one of nicotine, can be so compelling. the compulsion to go outside side and bum a cigarette is almost palpable. not sure if i can make it much longer. wish me luck.

In other news, XBox seams to have revealed a new bobble up its sleeve, two in fact (not including Natal). First is the future integration of AT&T U-Verse (a new way to over pay for television). Second of them is the new Game Room. They have found on a better way to milk your nostalgia and boredom and its sneakier than facebook games.

They're gonna encourage you to constantly customize and pay micro payments for creating a virtual, 80's-70's era arcade. Good news is, they're gonna make it pretty shiny and cheap, so it should be interesting.

Better than what Sony offered, there PS3 is now slim and 50 bucks less. Whoop-dee-Fuckin'- doo. All due respect Sony, but your un-affordable prices out the gate still left too big of an impression on the public, while Nintendo was so cute, not liking the Wii is illegal in three or four states, and xbox has been constantly improving there software in ways you are just now grasping half-assed. Make something cheap, fun, and easy to dev for. ten try that out.

I just got an Atta-Boy.....W00T!

My boss over here at the library just gave me my first "atta-boy" moment when i set up an email address for the front desk. I want to convince her to try IM support, but that comes later. according to her, "you gotta ease me into new ideas." which is understandable. To much to fast makes for a serious frazzle.

I also had lunch with my unbelievable sexy wife, Kelly. We had some of those Gyro's that Arby's sells? FUCKING.AWESOME.SAUCE! Literally and figuratively. I also wanted to mention how taziki sauce tastes like it sounds. Cool huh?

Boredem with a Capital Xbox.....

Hello, I am a nerd known as John Weddington, and this is the first blog post on this particular blog. Its not a special blog of any kind, its primarily just to hold the occasional thought that won't fit on twitter or doesn't seam stupid enough to Keep to myself.

I like to play Xbox 360 and my XBL name is johnwedd. feel free to add me, I get bored alot.
